Land Acknowledgement
At OPSEU/SEFPO Local 559, we acknowledge the land as the sacred home of Indigenous peoples who have long cared for and respected it. Indigenous communities consider the Earth as our collective Mother, with deep gratitude for all of creation’s contributions to maintaining balance. We recognize the responsibility carried by the original stewards of this land, and as individuals living and working here, we are committed to honoring this legacy.
As settlers and newcomers, we also acknowledge our role in contributing to reconciliation and respect for the teachings shared by Indigenous communities. Our Local stands committed to actions that reflect the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and our ongoing responsibility to foster understanding and respect.
Centennial College operates on the traditional lands of the Anishnaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This land is also covered by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe to share and protect the land peacefully. We give thanks to these nations for their stewardship and for welcoming us to this land.
